My Thinking...

Life can be very complex most of the time, not some of the time, and there are many forces in our environment to assure that we have a full agenda...just enough to be controlled, but not enough to drive most of us insane.  This site is just a small sampling of the areas that impact our lives daily and contribute to or take away from our health, be it physical, spiritual, or mental.

Far be it from me to achieve hypocrite status and edict, "Do as I say, not as I do."  I recently went through a cleansing with the Arise and Shine Herbal scheme.  I lost about 20 pounds in the process and my energy rose and my allergies, for the most part, took a hike.  My diet is about 90% vegetarian with just a fish on occasion.  Dairy products have been minimized.  Some egg products are consumed.

I used to have these horrible hives on my face from time to time.  Through a process of elimination of two "food" items (Bt Corn and red meat), I've been able to conquer the allergy problem and improve general wellness. (See Footnote 1 below)

While I do not have adequate empirical data (See Footnote 2 below) to conclusively prove what I am about to say, I would challenge anyone to disprove these statements:

  1. Products with Bt corn have been subtly increasing in our food chain over the last eight years.  Similarly, food allergies have been on the rise.  Eating Bt corn products immediately causes a tightening in my throat.  Eating organic corn causes no such problem.

  2. Since, I've stopped eating red meat, these almost weekly viruses that have affected so many people in recent years have not touched me once in the past year.  My conclusion here is on the documented filth that has permeated the meat food chain.  This is particularly well documented the "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins

Do you have similar problems?  Why does a neighbor's children's allergies stop when he switches from "regular" milk to organic milk?  Hmmm...

I am starting to have a short fuse for habitual complaining about health issues, when the solutions are in a person's hands. (See Footnote 3 below)

Footnote 1:  No sooner had I posted this on the web when I ate at a great local vegetarian restaurant.  Every attempt is to provide organic food, however, the corn chips supplied were not.  My hives returned, but not as severe as usual due to the low level of toxins in my body.  This is really torture to a corn lover, when probably 80-90% of the corn supply is currently Bt corn.

Footnote 2:  So the database builds...  queried a customer at the local Whole Foods Store the other day, who was purchasing a big bag of organic corn chips.  Question: "Have you had any experience or comment between buying organic corn chips versus conventional corn chips?"   Answer: "My two-year old daughter gets the runs when she eats non-organic corn chips."  Hmmm.  It wasn't an age thing after all.

Footnote 3:  It is really incredible how much noise people make when you talk to them about food choice.  They are so dog-gone defensive. John Robbins makes another very interesting statement, "It reminds me of the three stages any new truth always goes through.  First, it is ignored.  Second, it is violently opposed.  And third, it is accepted as self-evident."  Since I am talking to close acquaintances, it is difficult for them to ignore me, so invariably, we jump to the second phase very quickly.

The bottom line three points for not eating meat products are these:

  1. Health - The meat food chain has degraded to such an extent that food-borne diseases have become the rule rather than the exception.  Additionally, the reduction or cessation of meat consumption has documented health benefits.

  2. Humane treatment of animals - The U.S. stands alone in its brutality to food animals, the prime victims being cattle, pigs, chickens, and turkeys.

  3. Environment - Due to our excessive consumption of animal protein, more and more environmental damage is being done to this country and feed its meat appetite.  Exports of meat from other less developed countries are displacing native agriculture and creating poverty.

And, by the way...

Genesis 1:29-30

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground everything that has the breath of life in it I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
